Time to read and reread time. I read "Brave new world" in for about 20 years and I confess I could not understand a lot that mixed science fiction and sociology. I'm pleasantly surprised to read it now. Light. Easy. Full of interesting situations. A keen eye to the disagreements of modern life. The mayan our daily. Social exclusion. The escape by drugs. A short text to make a good week end even better. Look at the names of the characters: Henry Foster, Polly Trotsky, Bernard Marx. Similarities to persons living or dead? It's not a coincidence.
Pehaps not a masterpiece, but it is original and well developed. Text clear and objective. It's not an approach to gun guts but fun and makes us think. I pointed out certain passages that in my view inform because the book was successful.
chapter I
Nor do I want to comment much. Okay goal. The ideal was everybody as dumb as possible.
Start at the beginning
Class of London DIC (Director of incubation and conditioning) for its young and conditioned students.
Students were completely stupid. Conditioning was devasting. I feel a chill down my spine to think that the illusions of life wander around and there is interest in investing in the vulnerable side of people.It would be comical if not tragic.
Bernard Marx
Bernard Marx was different both fisically and emotionally. The rumor was that someone had set (incorre ctly) alcoohol in the tube where he was generated. He had a kind of manufacturing defect that left him with individual characteristics, wich was horrible in that society. Marx was more thinking and less alienated but did not have more prestige for it. He felt excluded and he criticized everyone else out of jealousy than by dissent. In the end, he was a worm.
Ford day ritual
"O Presidente fez de novo o sinal do T e sentou-se. A cerimônia tinha começado.
Como as gotas que caem do Ribeiro Social;
Ah! Faze com que corramos destemidos
Como teu Calhambeque sem igual!"
Ford was the deity. Oh my God! Despite the odds, we're not yet there. Or are we?
